21st December 2022:HPU New Recruitment Out!

HPU has released a short notice for recruiting Assistant Engineers through GATE 2022 scores. GATE ME Exam Apply Online 2023

The candidates can follow the steps which are mentioned below to apply for the GATE ME 2023.

Important points:

• Prefix- Mr/Shri/Dr/Mrs/Smt/Prof/Capt/Maj/Lt/Col., etc. MUST NOT be used.
• NO further changes can be made in the application form once you click on the “Submit button and Proceed to Payment” button, So, do ensure that all the details are correct.
• PwD/ Dyslexic candidates can avail scribe assistant ME during the GATE 2023 examination.
• Colored passport size photo of dimension 3.5 cm Width × 4.5 cm Height with white background is required for the GATE Application Form.
• Draw a rectangular box of size 2 cm × 7 cm (Height × Width) on an A4 sized white paper and sign with black/dark blue ink pen within this box. The signature should occupy 70~80% of the box size. The file size should fall between 10 kB (minimum) to 200 kB (maximum). You can crop the image and signature as per dimensions by using testbook photo resizing tool.
• After the candidate has filled the application form, they have to upload the scanned copy of the photograph, signature, and category certificate (if applicable) as per the specifications by the exam conducting authority.

• The application forms get scrutinized for the accuracy of the data, which includes uploaded copies of supporting documents, clarity of the photograph, and signature. If everything is as per the guidelines, only then the application form will be accepted or else rejected.
• Any errors found in the GATE application will be marked and intimated to the candidate for rectification, which has to be rectified within the given period of time. This will be done via e-mail and/or SMS.

Application Fee for GATE 2023

Below mentioned is the application fee for the exam center of GATE in India and for the Exam center outside of India. The application fee can only be paid through online mode like internet banking, visa card, etc.

GATE ME Selection Process 2023

The candidates will have to appear for an online examination. Only successful candidates will get called for document verification. GATE Mechanical Engineering is a 1 stage only exam. Successful candidates equal to the number of seats available will be taken in on a first come first serve basis. There shall be no interview. • Age Criteria: No Age Limit in GATE, candidates from any age group can apply for the exam. One just needs to be a graduate and there is no upper age limit.
• Nationality: The applicant must be a citizen of Indian. Foreign candidates can also apply for the exam but they need to fulfill the required eligibility criteria for the Foreign nationals, SC / ST / PwD categories are not applicable.
• Candidates who have completed/ are currently in the 3rd year or higher years or completed their Bachelor’s degree in their field of Engineering / Technology / Science / Arts / Commerce.

GATE ME Syllabus 2023

GATE Mechanical Engineering Syllabus is divided into many parts. The various topics of each section of the GATE Mechanical Engineering Syllabus 2023 are given below. There is a section-wise detailed GATE syllabus for each topic. Understand the syllabus thoroughly and plan your preparation plan accordingly. You should learn all the sub-topics and avoid skipping any of them, as there’s plenty of time for GATE 2023.

The GATE ME 2023 exam paper has been divided into two section –

GATE ME General Aptitude Syllabus 2023

• Verbal Aptitude - Basic English grammar: tenses, articles, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, verb-noun agreement, and other parts of speech Basic vocabulary: words, idioms, and phrases in context Reading and comprehension Narrative sequencing
• Quantitative Aptitude - Data interpretation: data graphs (bar graphs, pie charts, and other graphs representing data), 2- and 3-dimensional plots, maps, and tables Numerical computation and estimation: ratios, percentages, powers, exponents and logarithms, permutations and combinations, and series Mensuration and geometry Elementary statistics and probability
• Analytical Aptitude - Logic: deduction and induction Analogy Numerical relations and reasoning
• Spatial Aptitude - Transformation of shapes: translation, rotation, scaling, mirroring, assembling, and grouping Paper folding, cutting, and patterns in 2 and 3 dimensions.

GATE ME Core Subjects Syllabus 2023

Engineering Mathematics:

1. Linear Algebra: Matrix algebra, systems of linear equations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors. 
2. Calculus: Functions of single variable, limit, continuity and differentiability, mean value theorems, indeterminate forms; evaluation of definite and improper integrals; double and triple integrals; partial derivatives, total derivative, Taylor series (in one and two variables), maxima and minima, Fourier series; gradient, divergence and curl, vector identities, directional derivatives, line, surface and volume integrals, applications of Gauss, Stokes and Green’s theorems. 
3. Differential equations: First order equations (linear and nonlinear); higher order linear differential equations with constant coefficients; Euler-Cauchy equation; initial and boundary value problems; Laplace transforms; solutions of heat, wave and Laplace's equations. 
4. Complex variables: Analytic functions; Cauchy-Riemann equations; Cauchy’s integral theorem and integral formula; Taylor and Laurent series. 
5. Probability and Statistics: Definitions of probability, sampling theorems, conditional probability; mean, median, mode and standard deviation; random variables, binomial, Poisson and normal distributions. 
6. Numerical Methods: Numerical solutions of linear and non-linear algebraic equations; integration by trapezoidal and Simpson’s rules; single and multi-step methods for differential equations.

Applied Mechanics and Design:

1. Engineering Mechanics: Free-body diagrams and equilibrium; friction and its applications including rolling friction, belt-pulley, brakes, clutches, screw jack, wedge, vehicles, etc.; trusses and frames; virtual work; kinematics and dynamics of rigid bodies in plane motion; impulse and momentum (linear and angular) and energy formulations; Lagrange’s equation.
2. Mechanics of Materials: Stress and strain, elastic constants, Poisson’s ratio; Mohr’s circle for plane stress and plane strain; thin cylinders; shear force and bending moment diagrams; bending and shear stresses; concept of shear centre; deflection of beams; torsion of circular shafts; Euler’s theory of columns; energy methods; thermal stresses; strain gauges and rosettes; testing of materials with universal testing machine; testing of hardness and impact strength.
3. Theory of Machines: Displacement, velocity and acceleration analysis of plane mechanisms; dynamic analysis of linkages; cams; gears and gear trains; flywheels and governors; balancing of reciprocating and rotating masses; gyroscope.
4. Machine Design: Design for static and dynamic loading; failure theories; fatigue strength and the S-N diagram; principles of the design of machine elements such as bolted, riveted and welded joints; shafts, gears, rolling and sliding contact bearings, brakes, and clutches, springs.

Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences:

1. Fluid Mechanics: Fluid properties; fluid statics, forces on submerged bodies, stability of floating bodies; control-volume analysis of mass, momentum and energy; fluid acceleration; differential equations of continuity and momentum; Bernoulli’s equation; dimensional analysis; viscous flow of incompressible fluids, boundary layer, elementary turbulent flow, flow through pipes, head losses in pipes, bends and fittings; basics of compressible fluid flow.
2. Heat-Transfer: Modes of heat transfer; one dimensional heat conduction, resistance concept and electrical analogy, heat transfer through fins; unsteady heat conduction, lumped parameter system, Heisler’s charts; thermal boundary layer, dimensionless parameters in free and forced convective heat transfer, heat transfer correlations for flow over flat plates and through pipes, effect of turbulence; heat exchanger performance, LMTD and NTU methods; radiative heat transfer, Stefan- Boltzmann law, Wien’s displacement law, black and grey surfaces, view factors, radiation network analysis
3. Thermodynamics: Thermodynamic systems and processes; properties of pure substances, the behavior of ideal and real gases; zeroth and first laws of thermodynamics, calculation of work and heat in various processes; second law of thermodynamics; thermodynamic property charts and tables, availability, and irreversibility; thermodynamic relations.
4. Applications: Power Engineering: Air and gas compressors; vapour and gas power cycles concepts of regeneration and reheat. I.C. Engines: Air-standard Otto, Diesel and dual cycles. Refrigeration and air-conditioning: Vapour and gas refrigeration and heat pump cycles; properties of moist air, psychrometric chart, basic psychrometric processes. Turbomachinery: Impulse and reaction principles, velocity diagrams, Pelton-wheel, Francis and Kaplan turbines; steam and gas turbines.

Materials, Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering:

1. Engineering Materials: Structure and properties of engineering materials, phase diagrams, heat treatment, stress-strain diagrams for engineering materials. Casting, Forming and Joining
2. Machining and Machine Tool Operations: Mechanics of machining; basic machine tools; single and multi-point cutting tools, tool geometry and materials, tool life and wear; economics of machining; principles of non-traditional machining processes; principles of work holding, jigs and fixtures; abrasive machining processes; NC/CNC machines and CNC programming.
3. Casting, Forming and Joining Processes: Different types of castings, design of patterns, moulds and cores; solidification and cooling; riser and gating design. Plastic deformation and yield criteria; fundamentals of hot and cold working processes; load estimation for bulk (forging, rolling, extrusion, drawing) and sheet (shearing, deep drawing, bending) metal forming processes; principles of powder metallurgy. Principles of welding, brazing, soldering and adhesive bonding.
4. Computer Integrated Manufacturing: Basic concepts of CAD/CAM and their integration tools; additive manufacturing.
5. Metrology and Inspection: Limits, fits and tolerances; linear and angular measurements comparators; interferometry; form and finish measurement; alignment and testing methods; tolerance analysis in manufacturing and assembly; concepts of a coordinate-measuring machine (CMM).
6. Inventory Control: Deterministic models; safety stock inventory control systems.
7. Operations Research: Linear programming, simplex method, transportation, assignment, network flow models, simple queuing models, PERT and CPM.
8. Production Planning and Control: Forecasting models, aggregate production planning, scheduling, materials requirement planning; lean manufacturing.

GATE ME Exam Pattern 2023

The GATE ME Exam will be conducted online. It will be a Computer Based test (cbt) in which MCQs will be asked by the authority. Read the table below to know the detailed information about the exam pattern for the GATE Mechanical Engineering 2023.

• Candidates are asked 65 questions over a duration of 3 hours.
• There is a negative marking of 1/3 rd for 1 mark MCQ questions.
• There is a negative marking of 2/3rd for 2 mark MCQ questions.
• The GATE exam consists of a total of 100 marks.
• There is NO negative marking for a wrong answer in MSQ and NAT questions. However, there is NO partial credit also.
• In all papers, GA questions carry a total of 15 marks which includes 5 questions of 1 mark and 5 questions of 2 marks each making the total of 15 marks.
• Question papers other than GG, XE, XH, and XL will have 25 questions carrying 1-mark each and 3 questions of 2 marks each.
