SSC CGL Eligibility - Nationality

Nationality is one of the important criteria You need to check before you apply. To be eligible for the exam You need to be-

• A Citizen Of India (or)
• A Citizen Of Nepal (or)
• A Citizen Of Bhutan (or)
• A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

SSC CGL Eligibility - Physical Fitness Standards & Physical Test

There are one more eligibility criteria a candidate has to fulfill that is Physical Fitness Standard. This criterion is applicable for candidates applying for the following posts.

Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/ Preventive Officer), Inspector & Sub-Inspector in CBN:

For Male Candidates

• (i) Physical Standards:
  • Height 157.5 cm.
  • Chest 81 cm (fully expanded with a minimum expansion of 5 cm.)
  • Height relaxable by 5 cm in the case of Garwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas, and members of Scheduled Tribes.
• (ii) Physical Test:
  • Walking - 1600 meters in 15 minutes.
  • Cycling - 8 Kms. in 30 minutes.

For Female Candidates

• (i) Physical standards (Minimum requirement)

• (ii)Physical Test:
  • Walking - 1 Km. in 20 minutes.
  • Cycling - 3 Kms. in 25 minutes.

NOTE: For the candidates applying for the post of Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/ Preventive Officer), persons with disabilities will have to meet the physical standards i.e. height, chest, and weight as prescribed for the relevant post. However, for orthopedically disabled candidates, the following relaxation in Physical Test is allowed:

• (a) The test of “Walking” shall not be insisted in the case of OL and OAL categories.
• (b) The test of “Cycling” shall not be insisted in case of OA, OL and OAL categories.
• (OL - One Leg affected, OAL - One Arm and one Leg affected)

Physical Standards for the Post of Sub-Inspector in Central Bureau of Investigation:

• Height For men - 165 cm.
• Height For women - 150 cm.

Height relaxable for Hillsmen and Tribals: 5 cms.

• Chest:76 cm with expansion

(There shall be no such requirement in case of female candidates)

• Vision: Eye-sight (with or without glasses)
  • Distant vision: 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye.
  • Near vision 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in the other eye.

Physical Standards for the Post of Sub-Inspector in National Investigation Agency:

• Height
• For men - 170 cms.
• For women- 150 cms.
• Height relaxable for Hillsmen and Tribals: 5 cms.
• Chest:
• 76 cm with expansion (There shall be no such requirement in case of female candidates)
• Vision:
• Eye-sight (with or without glasses)
• Distant vision: 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye.
• Near vision 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in the other eye.

SSC CGL Eligibility for People With Disabilities

People With Disabilities (PwDs) are eligible to appear for the SSC CGL exam with special eligibility criteria. Candidates must have 40% or more disability to be eligible to come under persons with disability. They are provided with certain relaxations in the criteria set by SSC. The applicant must attach the disability certificate issued by the Medical Board along with the application form. SSC CGL eligibility for people with disabilities is given below:

SSC CGL Eligibility - Number Of Attempts

Though there is no defined number of attempts. It depends upon which age group a candidate falls. For instance, if a candidate is trying for the post of an inspector in central excise and has started appearing from the age of 21 years then he can give exams until he reaches the age of 30 years. So the number of attempts will be restricted to 9. If the Commission updates any specific number of attempts we will update the same here.

Advantages of Reservation under ESM Category for SSC CGL

Just like knowing the Age relaxation for Reservation categories is important. Likewise, every candidate must be aware of reservation advantages infer the Ex-servicemen aka ESM Category -

1. If the Ex-servicemen falling under the “Group C” and “Group D” of the Central Government, have already endured the reservation benefits for re-employment in a civilian job, they are not entitled to ESM Category reservation. They will be eligible for this special reservation only if they submit the self-declaration containing all the necessary details of the prior civil employment to their current employer.
2. In order to enjoy the benefits of this reservation as an ex-serviceman, acquiring the status as one is extremely important. The ex-servicemen status needs to be acquired within a year of the last application receipt and should be supported by factual and documentary evidence from the competent authority

SSC CGL Eligibility for Scribe

Scribe is provided for such candidates who have any kind of disabilities and they cannot write their exams or mark answers on computers. Scribe means a candidate who is not related to the same exam and must not have the qualification more than the eligibility of that particular exam. SSC CGL eligibility criteria for scribes must be known to those who have some kind of disabilities and want to opt for a scribe. Check the eligibility for the same:

• For people with standard disabilities in the order of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected- BA) and cerebral paralysis, the provision of using scribes is given, if desirable by the seeker.
• In case of the remaining categories of candidates with standard disabilities, scribe will be provided only after submission of certificate at the time of exam. The certificate must state that the concerned seeker has physical limitations in jotting, and that a scribe is essential to write the examination on his/her behalf. It must be issued by the Chief Medical Officer or Civil Surgeon or Medical Superintendent of a government health care institution.
• The provision of using scribes will be handed to only those PwD candidates who have decided for the same while filling the online application form.
• The candidates have the discretion to choose their scribes or to avail the facility of scribes provided by the Commission. 
• If candidates are opting for their own scribes, the qualification of the scribe must be one step below that of the candidate taking the exam.
• The candidates who wish to opt the facility of a scribe shall be required to submit the details of the scribe at the time of exam as per proforma. In addition, the scribe must carry an original ID proof and a photocopy of the same ID as evidence. If it is found that the scribe’s qualification is not as provided by the candidate, then the candidate will be disqualified and his rights to the post will be forfeited.
• In cases where the candidates opt for their own scribes, the scribe must not be a candidate of the exam. If a candidate is found to assist another PwD candidate in the same exam, then the candidature of both the candidates will be canceled.
• The candidates who are allowed the provision of using scribes will be given a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of the exam. Candidates who are allowed to take scribes but are opting not to use the facility will also be provided with the compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of the exam.
• No other attendant apart from the scribes of the allowed aspirant will be permitted to enter the exam hall.
• One- eyed and incompletely eyeless candidates who are suitable to read the normal question paper set with or without the help of magnifying spectacles and to write or indicate their answers using the same will be allowed the magnifying spectacles in the exam hall. They won't be entitled to using scribes. They will have to bring their own magnifying spectacles to the exam hall.
• The PwD candidates who have decided to avail scribes facility or passage readers or compensatory time, must show the documents needed for the eligibility of the same during the Document Verification (DV) round also. Failure to bring applicable documents will lead to the cancellation of their candidature for the exam. Such candidates will not be considered for any of the posts.

SSC CGL Eligibility - Important Points

• The candidates in their final year of graduation can apply for the exam, the criteria being that he /she should get the required degree on or before 1st January 2020
