- Only candidates having Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University can apply for the selection process.
- The selection process for SSC JE ME consists of 1st phase (Paper I), which will be an Objective exam, the 2nd Phase (Paper-II) will be a descriptive exam.

- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to the above categories shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Number of Attempts
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has not mentioned any limit on the number of attempts for the recruitment process. Candidates are eligible to apply only after they cross their maximum age restriction as per their category mentioned in the notification.
Experience
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has specified prior working experience of Two years in Mechanical Engineering (applicable for candidates applying for Military Engineer Services only)
