GATE Marking Scheme for MCQs, MSQs, NATs

Before candidates check the answer key for the GATE exam, they should be familiar with the marking scheme so as mark themselves accordingly. The table below shows the marking scheme for MCQs, MSQs and NATs asked in GATE exam. Make sure you pay attention to it as making a mistake in calculating marks can affect your result prediction.

Steps to challenge GATE Answer Key 2023

In case of a change of answer in GATE Answer Key 2023, candidates can challenge it by paying a fee of 500 INR for each answer. To raise objections against the GATE answer key, candidates need to follow the following steps.

• Visit the official website of GOAPS
• Log in using your registered ID and password
• Click on the link ‘GATE Answer Key 2023’
• Select the paper/discipline that you had given.
• Then Click on ‘Raise Objection’
• Find the question number for which you want to raise an objection from the official answer key and also enter the question ID and the correct answer.
• Attach supporting document in PDF format along with the section name and question number in the supporting document.
• Pay the objection fee through the available method of payment.

Candidates who question the GATE answer key for 2023 will be able to get a refund of the objection fee (500 INR) if it is found that their challenge is valid. No refund will be given if the filed challenge is found to be incorrect.

Importance of GATE Answer Key 2023

The answer key to GATE 2023 will contain all the answers to the questions that will be asked in the GATE 2023 examination.

• The answer key will enable the candidates to assess their probable scores before the results are released. However, in order to evaluate the ranking, candidates would have to abide by the method of the official marking system.
• Using this system, candidates will be able to raise any questions or concerns regarding the GATE 2023 answer key within a limited timeline.
• All the issues/objections of the applicant shall be considered by the examining officials before the results of the GATE 2023 is declared.
• The GATE answer key would also provide clarity in the admission process as it reduces the chance of unwanted consequences for candidates and extra marks awarded in GATE 2023.

Steps to Calculate the Score for GATE Exam

The steps listed below can be used by candidates to estimate their expected score using the GATE 2023 answer key:

• Determine the total number of correct responses, assign points based on those answers, and then determine the final score.
• The candidate must calculate the marks deducted for incorrect answers. (Only MCQs, or multiple choice questions, will be given a negative mark. No negative marking for NAT). Following is the calculation:

• MCQ Marks: Total marks (1 mark) + Total marks (2 marks).
•  Total marks (1 mark) = 1 x no. of correct attempts – 1/3 x no. of wrong attempts.
•  Total marks (2 marks) = 2 x number of correct attempts – 2/3 x number of wrong attempts.
• NAT Marks: Total marks (1 mark) + Total marks (2 marks).

Formula: Total marks = Total marks secured for correct response – Negative marks for wrong response.

The GATE 2023 Committee has the authority to decide the qualifying mark/score for each GATE paper. In case of any claim or dispute with respect to the GATE 2023 examination or score, the Courts and Tribunals in Mumbai alone will have the exclusive jurisdiction to entertain and settle them.

• GATE Candidate Response sheet is the record of answers marked by the candidates during GATE 2023.
• With the help of this GATE response sheet, candidates can easily check the answers to all questions and evaluate their results at GATE 2023.
• The GATE Response Sheet is usually released before the GATE Answer Key. So, you can expect the GATE Response key to be published a few days before the answer key is released.

What Next After GATE Answer Key 2023?

• After releasing the GATE answer key, the GATE officials will release the results of 2023 for all the candidates who will give the exam.
• Candidates must log in with their GATE enrolment ID, email address, registration ID, and password in order to view the GATE 2023 result.
• Candidates will be able to view their scores out of 100, qualifying marks for the GATE exam, All India Rank, and other information in the GATE 2023 result.
• Candidates should be aware that the authorities will calculate the scores using the raw scores obtained by the candidates in each GATE paper.
• The authorities will use a normalisation method for papers with multiple sessions.
